Jarvik Artificial Heart

Dr. Jarvik had lost his father to a heart attack when he decided to devote his life to studying the heart. He has obtained his Bachelors, Masters, and MD degrees. He has also received honorary Doctor of Science, Doctor of Engineering, and Doctor of Medicine degrees. He is currently the CEO of the company that manufactures the Jarvik 7 artificial heart and the Jarvik 2000 artificial heart. He has collaborated closely with many top surgeons and cardiologists from dozens of the top leading medical centers in America, Europe, and Asia. Dr. Jarvik has been named Inventor of the year and has received a lifetime achievement award among other honors. His inventions, the Jarvik 7 heart and the Jarvik 2000 Heart have been displayed in the Smithsonian Institution as part of an exhibit called “Treasures of American History.”
Due to his devotion and curiosity he created the Jarvik artificial heart. His invention was the first permanent total artificial heart used in a patient, called the Jarvik 7 Heart. He also created, developed, and assisted in the clinical application of a miniature, silent heart assistant device that sustained a patient in good health for 7-and-a-half years, much longer than any other artificial heart in the world. This device is called the Jarvik 2000 Heart. He does not practice clinical medicine or see individual patients but focuses on medical science.
Since 1982 the Jarvik artificial heart has been implanted in over 250 patients. The study submitted to the FDA took ten years to complete and included 95 patients. The study showed a 79 percent success at one year, a 50 percent success at five years, and a 45 percent success at eight years. Early last year the FDA review panel recommended pre-market approval of the device for bridge-to-transplant use. The Jarvik 7 artificial Heart then became the first total artificial heart to receive full FDA approval.
The now approved artificial heart is available to persons who have a terminal heart disease and are in need of a heart transplant. The artificial hears is only for the use of sustaining life while waiting for a complete heart transplant. This artificial heart keeps many people living who would otherwise have a heart that fails to do its job while waiting for a complete transplant. Thanks to Dr. Jarvik people now have an option while waiting for a complete heart transplant. They can purchase a Jarvik artificial heart that can save their lives.

Illumination: on a cloudy evening, very dark I returned home to my dark house with no lights, but I wasn’t scared for I lived in a boring neighborhood with little action. Decision scene: Usually when I feel bored is when I also feel lonely, for me boredom isn’t only when I feel I have nothing to do it is when I have no one to do anything with. I mostly feel bored when I have just finished school or work and I am driving home to an empty house. I hate the feeling I get when I know no one will be there when I return and I get a bored feeling that I have nothing to do when its simply that I don’t want to be alone. Homesickness to me is not really missing home its missing my mother or my family. I don’t live with my mother and when I don’t see her or talk to her for a couple of days I start to feel sadness, homesickness. The only way I can cure this sad, empty feeling is to fee my mother or hear her voice. In some more severe cases I get I can’t just settle for hearing her I have to see her and spend time with her.

Frederick Douglass: Both of these stories use Oxen and are about how people are sent out on their own to do things their selves. Both of these people learned a lesson, being different things, on learned things aren’t always easy and to never let your guard down. The other learned how to shut other things our and focus on himself and how to find himself.
